Department of Conservation - Nelson Lakes National Park A well resourced Visitor centerer at St Arnaud / Lake Rotoiti, this is where detailed information can be found on the tracks, huts, Fauna and bird life, in and around the Nelson Lakes National Park. Fishing Licenses; Fish and Game fishing licenses can be purchased from the visitor center, one to four day and whole of season licenses are available. Hunting Permits; Permits to hunt on conservation land in the Tasman Conservatory area can be obtained from the visitor center (a valid firearms licensed is needed). Back Country Huts A list of all huts, in the Nelson lakes area with bunk nos, Category, facilities, and grid reference etc Hut Pass Information Back-country Hut Passes, valid for 6 or 12 months, are available for use at most Serviced and Standard huts. The Back-country Hut Pass is $90.00 (12 months), $60 (6 months) for adults (18 and over) and $45.00 (12 months), $30.00 (6 months) for youth (11-17 years). Children 0-10 years old are free. Rainbow Ski Area Less than 2 hours drive from Nelson or Blenheim. rainbow is accessed from SH 63 Between Blenheim and St Arnaud. Rainbow Ski area is perched high in the St Arnaud Range with views from the top of the ski field which are spectacular. Readily accessible by road the ski field has slopes and facilities to suit all levels of skiing and snow boarding. The season runs from July through to early October, (depending on snow conditions) |
